  • Malacological research and the design, construction, and testing of a mesocosm system – contract no. 33/2023/B, total budget: EUR 40,000, carried out between 15 February 2023 and 30 June 2024.

  • Distribution, population status, and genetic variability of Microcondylea bonelli, a European endemic species, and understanding the distribution and genetic diversity of European freshwater mussel species – member of an international research team; field studies conducted in Slovenia and Croatia (May 2021).

  • Research project: To what extent can pre-adaptation influence the behavioral response of invasive      and native bivalves to thermal stress?
    CNR – Institute for Ecosystem Studies, Verbania Pallanza (VB), Italy,      26 July 2021 – 10 August 2021, within the Horizon 2020 eLTER PLUS project – an integrated European long-term research infrastructure for ecosystem, critical zone, and socio-ecological studies.

  • Since 2018 (ongoing) – member of an international team aimed at verifying freshwater mussel species diversity in Europe (Leader: CIBIO, Portugal). Fieldwork conducted in: Italy (2018); Albania and Croatia (2019); Bulgaria and Romania (2021); Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Czech Republic (2022); Norway, Sweden, England (2023); Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Denmark, Luxembourg (2024); Serbia and Georgia (2025).

  • Participation in research within the EdgeOmic project (CIIMAR, Portugal) – Freshwater mussels on the edge: adaptive genomics under climate change scenarios (2024).

  • Participant in the COST Action CONFREMU – Conservation of freshwater mussels: a pan-European approach (until April 2024).

  • Since 2023 – member of the SSC Mollusc Specialist Group and co-author of the current IUCN Red List threat assessment for freshwater snails.

Research interests

  • Molluscs biology and ecology, including distribution and role of bivalve in the environment, activity and sensitivity of molluscs, dispertion and impact of invasive mussels particularly with Sinanodonta woodiana and Corbicula fluminea.

  • Population studies and monitoring of rare and protected species, e.g.: Unio crassus, Vertigo angustior, Vertigo moulinsiana, Anisus vorticulus
